Unlike many of our neighbouring countries, Sri Lankan Jungles are rich in biodiversity and animal encounters. One of the most significant advantages of the Island over many destinations is that its compact size allows for encounters with rare species of animals, birds and amphibians across diverse fauna and landscapes within short travel distances. From a UNESCO World Heritage rainforest, renowned for its unique biodiversity and made famous by naturalist David Attenborough, to arid dry zone jungles and mountainous forests, Sri Lanka’s wild terrain offers the most diverse and immersive experiences in this part of the world.
The Island is more commonly known for leopard sightings and the migration of elephants. Experiencing either of these animals in the wilderness is an experience many travellers take with them and return to the Island. Seldom emphasised, though, is that Sri Lanka is home to over 4,000 species of animals, including a significant number of endemic species, making it one of the most biologically diverse countries in the world relative to its size. In addition to being the best place on Earth to encounter one leopard, Sri Lanka is also home to near-extinct species such as the sloth bear, jungle cat and mouse deer.
In its entirety, the adventure of Sri Lankan jungles is to be placed within jungle camping sites and awake to the jungle’s calling. Experience the smell of the jungle and hear the warning calls of peacocks and deer as the Island’s apex feline predators in on their morning hunt. If you would like to know more, speak to our team.
